Founded in 2001, the Ricky Riggs Memorial Foundation was created to raise funds to support children’s hospitals and other charitable organizations whose activities involve the health and education of children. The foundation name honors the memory of Ricky Riggs, Charleston Post Card Company, a member of the association who died tragically at the early age of 34. Ricky’s love for children was the inspiration for the Foundation’s purpose. Each year, the Foundation’s Board selects a different children’s charity in the convention host city as the recipient of the funds raised
The Foundation collects donations throughout the year through member donations and fundraisers such as the Memorial Golf Tournament and Silent Auction held in conjunction with the convention and trade show.
The members of SWDA proudly donated to the following organizations since the Foundation’s inception:
2009 Raising Special Kids, Phoenix, AZ
2008 Gales Creek Camp, Portland, OR
2007 Horry County Shelter Home, Myrtle Beach, SC
2006 Ashley’s Place and TRAC House, Nashville, TN
